5. Fault Detection & Troubleshooting
Fault 1: No power when switching on
Check whether the fuse is blown, and verify power cord & wall socket connection.
Fault 2: Heating switch turned ON but aluminum plate fails to heat
- Step 1: Test heating tubes
Cut off total power supply first, set multimeter to resistance mode, disconnect each heating tube wire separately for measurement. Normal resistance ranges from tens to 200 ohms. Infinite resistance or near-zero resistance indicates damaged tube, which needs replacement.
- Step 2: Test heating switch
Disconnect main power, switch multimeter to continuity buzzer mode, toggle the power switch and probe both terminals. Continuity on both circuits means the switch is intact; otherwise replace the switch.
- Step 3: Test solid state relay (SSR) – CAUTION: Risk of electric shock!
Power on the hot plate and turn on heating switch. If SSR indicator light lights or flashes, input circuit works normally. If no light, measure DC 12V across SSR terminals 3 & 4; no voltage means faulty temperature controller. Switch multimeter to 750V AC range and measure AC voltage across SSR terminals 1 & 2. Constant 220V AC output without switching indicates shorted SSR, replace immediately.
- Step 4: Test temperature controller
Power on the unit and activate heating mode. If display operates normally, set multimeter to 20V DC range and measure terminals 3 & 4 of SSR. Absence of 12V DC control signal confirms defective temperature controller for replacement.
Fault 3: Temperature reading inaccurate
- Flashing “At” code on SV window: Accidental long press of decimal shift key activated PID auto-tuning function. To cancel, hold decimal shift key for 3 seconds then release; the flashing “At” will disappear automatically, or the controller will auto-terminate tuning within 30 minutes.
- PV window shows code 1312 and SV window displays “oral”: Temperature sensor circuit open circuit, sensor needs replacement.
